Our club teamed up with Heart of the Valley, a South Bay based nonprofit organization providing services to seniors in our community. Many of our club members signed up to be Santa’s Reindeers to deliver gifts to seniors in their neighborhood. We are grateful for this opportunity for our club to bring some cheer to seniors in our community.

Thank you everyone for an amazing day of community service on Jan 15, 2018, and all of the work you all did to make it possible. Here's a rough count and description of what we planted yesterday:
- 32 trees, including: 3 valley oaks, 6 silver lindens, 12 fruit trees, manzanita, parrotia, scarlet oak, catalina ironwood, redbud, elderberry, and a silk oak tassel.
- 90 large shrubs, including: almost 50 ceanothus, carolina laurel cherry, several native cherries, coffeeberry, currant, mountain mahogany, and smaller manzanitas.
- Numerous other native and edible plants, including: salvias, honeysuckle vines, redberry,
- serviceberry, wild grape, blueberries, gooseberries, kiwi (two female and one male), lemonade berry, sugar bush.
More plants and community engagement will come over the coming months and years. Thank you again for everything you all contributed to make this day and all it represents possible!

The value of service is well understood by Rotarians, so this partnership between Rotary and Red Cross brought together our club members and Rotarians from District 5170 to train for emergency preparedness based on the Red Cross "Ready When the Time Comes" program. This one day event was held at the American Red Cross - Silicon Valley Chapter.
