AFGHAN REFUGEE PROJECT

Message from Shreya Jani, Public Image Chair 2021 - 2022

The Bedsheet Drive has come to an end! Special thank you to all who have donated and made this project a success. With a goal of 100 sheets, we were able to collect 84 sets.

On Saturday April 30th, members Anandi and Rachel came to my house to help load the boxes into our cars (thanks to Anandi's husband for the additional manpower). We then drove to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) branch in San Jose and met up with Meena. Then we trolleyed up the boxes to the office on the second floor. Thank goodness for the elevator! Our point of contact, Michelle Borrego, welcomed us and took pictures for our team.

For those who do not know, one of the International Rescue Committee's primary goals is providing assistance to refugees around the world who need to flee their home countries due to lack of safety. Our contribution as a club was to help provide bedsheets for Afghan refugees who are resettling in our area and need basic housing items. For those who wish to be more involved, please send me an email so I can direct you to the coordinators who continue to need various items for these families. Let us continue to come together and serve our community as best we can!
